At The Zoo

The Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque, New Mexico affords me the opportunity to take lots of pictures of zoo animals.  It's a good zoo with natural looking habitats.  The residents must be happy because they produce baby animals every year.  It's common to see several species of baby animals born in the same year.  In 2013, for example the baby animals included an elephant, a giraffe, a gorilla, an orangutan and a pair of snow leopards.  They even adopted an abandoned baby rhino in 2012 who's now being raised by an unrelated female they already had.

They have endangered animals like polar bears.  In fact the polar bears are favorite with visitors.  They interact and show off.  There's a window to their underwater world where you can get a different view them swimming after fish and playing with their toys.  Feeding times are scheduled twice a day so visitors can see them in action.

We have animals from all over the globe including African animals like the hippos, hyenas, wild dogs, chimpanzees, orangutans and gorillas.  Their Australian animals exhibit is growing with the addition of wombats in addition to the koalas, kukabura and emus.  They even added a couple of rescued salt water crocodiles.

Of course they have Southwestern desert animals like the amusing prairie dogs, roadrunners, wolves, bison, buzzards and tortoises, not to mention golden eagles and bald eagles.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of zoo animals.
